How to Add a PDF Download Button to Your WordPress Website
As a WordPress website owner, you may want to offer your visitors the option to download a PDF version of your content. Whether it's an eBook, a whitepaper, or a guide, providing a downloadable PDF can increase engagement and help users retain the information better. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps to add a PDF Download Button to your WordPress website.
Step 1: Upload the PDF file
Before adding the PDF download button, you need to upload the file to your WordPress Media Library. To do this, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Media> Add New. Drag and drop the PDF file or select it from your computer's file system and click on 'Upload'.
Step 2: Copy the PDF URL
Once the PDF file is uploaded, hover over the file and click on ‘Copy link address.’ This will copy the file’s URL to your clipboard.
Step 3: Install and Activate ‘Buttons Shortcode and Widgets’ Plugin
To add a PDF download button, we’ll use a plugin called ‘Buttons Shortcode and Widgets.’ Head to Plugins> Add New and search for the ‘Buttons Shortcode and Widgets’ plugin. Install and activate the plugin.
Step 4: Create a New Button
After activating the plugin, go to Pages/ Posts > Add New or edit an existing page, where you want to add the PDF download button. Add a new block and search for the ‘Button’ block. Add the ‘Button’ block to your page.
Step 5: Configure the Button
Once you’ve added the button block, you’ll see a range of settings to customize the button's appearance. In the ‘Text’ field, enter the text you want to display on the button, such as ‘Download PDF.’
Next, go to the ‘Link’ field, and paste the PDF URL you copied earlier.
In the ‘Target’ field, choose ‘_blank’ so that the file will open in a new tab when the user clicks the button.
Finally, customize the button's appearance by changing the font, color, and size to match your website's style.
Step 6: Publish the Button
Once you’re done configuring the button, click the ‘Publish’ button to make it live on your website. You can now preview your page to check if the PDF download button is working correctly.
Adding a PDF download button to your WordPress website is that simple! This is a great way to offer your users an easy way to download and access your content offline. With just a few clicks, you can increase engagement and provide a better user experience on your website.
